HIPAA stands for the "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act", an act passed by the U.S. Congress in 1996 as part of a broad Congressional
attempt at incremental healthcare reform. The law requires the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop standards and
requirements for the maintenance and transmission of patient health
information.
What this Means to You
Under the new HIPAA guidelines:
TPA's and other entities dealing with Healthcare data must support
EDI.
These entities must select, install, and test EDI
"translators".
Management of Trading Partners and testing will be crucial for
success.
How We Can Help
We can handle all aspects of EDI for you, including consulting,
implementation, testing, training and negotiating with
your Trading Partners.
HIPAA may be a "new" requirement, but the EDI portion of
the law is tried and true. Just like our experience with it.
